Sting Unplugged

It's probably been said on here a few times and dicussed into the ground, but I just got done watching Stings Unplugged vid from 92 and just wanted to remind all you Vinnie dudes what a wealth of musical knowledge it is. It's probably some of the tastiest Vin out there and has been one of my faves for a long time. Any opinions?

yeah, amazing lesson in hi-hat interplay and cross stick sound. I love the tunes on that concert tour as well. My favorite band of Sting's.

I second both opinions. I thought Manu did a respectable job on "Soul Cages", but love Vinnie's interpretation much better. I'd give almost anything to have the ability to play the hats between my hand and foot, the way Vinnie does on 'Mad About You'. Incredible coordination!!!! For those who aren't aware, that video is available on DVD.

I have the VHS and remember recording some of it onto mini-disc... pretty good laid-back performances, there was a percussionist too from what i recall. Something bugged me about Vinnie's setup... was he using the black drumheads on this? I can't remember what it was, but it was something... maybe his cymbal angles... and his weird right-hand technique on the ride (playing hand below stick) nice playing for sure but I much prefer the TEN SUMMONERs TALES video.

When did this come out on DVD !?

It's hard to say when it came out. I bought it several months ago at Best Buy. I think it is an import from Portugal.

I'll definitely have to hit Best Buy and see if I can find it on DVD. I'm glad you said that! And yeah, Vinx is the percussionist/background singer on that and he's a very welcome addition if you ask me. (He's also on the Soul Cages Live VHS/DVD.) I don't think Vinnies drum heads were black, probably just the inside of the Recording Custom shells.
All that said, I just want to say what a great website this is and a great source of info for us Vinnie freaks out there.

Vinnie is great on the unplugged. one of my favorites from that session is Tea in the Sahara, also Sting alternate melodic interpretation of the chorus, gives the song new bursting energy.
